We started off the Christmas season by going to Helemano Christmas Tree farm to find and cut down a tree that was grown locally. Rather than the traditional-looking Leyland Cypress trees that they sell, we decided on a Hawaiian-style tree this year--the Norfolk Pine. The Norfolk Pine was a live-tree dream because it didn't shed, they cut from the top of the tree and don't cut down the entire tree (tops of trees can be harvested every 2 years), and we supported a local business rather than getting a tree shipped in from the Pacific Northwest. Mark even commented how much he liked picking out the tree at the farm (and he usually questions why I want a real tree when we have a fake one).
We decided this may take the place of the unpleasant pumpkin patch experience in October :)

| It took several hours to perfectly add the lights to the trunk and wire-wrap them to the branches, but the perfectionist in me wouldn't have it otherwise :) Here's the finished masterpiece! We really loved our unique Christmas Tree this year - it really showed off each ornament and looked beautiful when it was all lit up. |
