Both of the boys had their well baby/annual checkup with the doctor this past week so I thought it would be a good time to share their recent "stats" and share a snapshot of what they are each like....Gavin as a 4 year old and Dylan as a 16 month old.
I'll start with big brother, Gavin. He is 41 inches tall and weighs 38 pounds. He grew 3 inches and gained 7 pounds this past year. He is in his 2nd year of preschool - in the "Yellow Class" and LOVES school! He can recognize and write all letters of the alphabet and can read and spell three letter words. He is very interested in how things are spelled and in sounding out words he comes across. He gets the concepts of addition and subtraction, often pointing things out to us like, "If I have two toys and I get two more, I'll have four toys" or "If I have four jellybeans and I eat one, I'll have three"

Currently, he wants to be a ninja when he grows up - which is the closest profession he can find that is related to Power Rangers. And speaking of Power Rangers, that is his newest obsession. He has all the Power Ranger toys, constantly asks to watch the Power Ranger shows we have on our streaming Netflix, and often gets lost in a make believe world were he is Billy (the green ranger), Dylan is Tommy (the blue ranger) and I'm the pink ranger.

Gavin and Dylan's relationship is forming into a typical sibling hot-cold one. At times, he gets annoyed when Dylan messes up his toys, but mostly he includes Dylan in his play (even if Dylan doesn't "get it") and looks out for his little brother. I think one of the most touching moments I've witnessed between the boys was when they were at the doctor this past week. They both had to get shots, so Gavin agreed to go first to be brave for his brother. (He cried through all 4 shots). When it was Dylan's turn, Gavin insisted he be the one to hold Dylan's hands, not me. Then after the nurse gave Dylan his first shot in the leg and Dylan started screaming, Gavin tried to push the nurse away from Dylan. (I had to intervene at this point, but the point to the story is that it was the first time I've seen Gavin protect his little brother...melt my heart!)
And now for Dylan...
..................................our little D Badger...........................
our little bundle of joy........................................................
Dylan is 16 months old now and I still am in denial that my baby boy is a toddler. I am still in denial that it might possibly be time for him to have the "first haircut", that he should probably kick the pacifier habit, and that the baby stage is forever over in our house. So, for all those reasons, Dylan still has a pacifier when he sleeps and has hair long enough that someone asked me the other day if he was a boy or a girl. (Clearly the person wasn't very perceptive...he was wearing all grey and his behavior says ALL BOY, but that comment was enough that Mark confirmed that a haircut would be coming soon....with or without me on board).
At his 15 month check up, Dylan measured 33 3/4 inches long (above the 99th percentile for height) and weighed 23 pounds (gaining 5 pounds in 3 months....probably because he prefers to keep an every-2-hour-feeding-schedule throughout the day)
Dylan is slowly learning to feed himself using utensils, which usually results in a very messy boy after meal times. He LOVES to eat and there aren't many things we've put in front of him that he doesn't try. Some of his favorites are yogurt, fruit, and just like big brother...mini pancakes with peanut butter.
He does a lot a babble now that sounds like jibber-jabber with an occasional Mom, Dad, Bubba, bye-bye or his best buddy, "Zack"mixed in. He points to and says something that resembles Marley as well. And speaking of Marley, Dylan really looks out for her at dinnertime, giving one bite to himself and giving one bite to her. Of course, loving this new concept of being hand fed from the table, Marley's new hangout spot during dinner is right next to Dylan's chair.
Dylan is certainly our little thrill-seeker and has a love for all things that make my heart skip a beat. He climbs on any and everything possible - including our new ottoman. Not only does he climb on it, he takes it a step further by leaping onto the couch from the ottoman....laughing all the way. He has found new uses for the riding toys the boys have - they are step stools to help him reach things on the kitchen counter and dining room table.
This is one tough little guy, falling and getting bumps and bruises often (due to his dare devil ways) and usually just gets up and keeps on going. He loves playing outside, throwing balls, and making big messes around the house :)
He still has baby curls in his hair and the bluest eyes that can melt my heart and even though he keeps us on our toes, he has moments that all he wants to do is cuddle up and read a book. Although those moments come few and far between for our busy little boy, I have learned to appreciate them even more.
