Aloha 'oe

Living so far away from our family has created a very unique situation with our friends out here - we depend on each other as if we were family. In good times and bad, we have been there for each other. This past weekend we all got together (and even organized a group photo) to celebrate the wonderful bonds of friendship we have formed while living here. It was also a time to wish those leaving us the best as they move on to new adventures in their lives...
The MacDonalds to Germany
The Stampfers to New York
Melanie to Pennsylvania and
Kristen and Chris to the Big Island

In the Hawaiian language, the word Aloha means many things - hello, love, and goodbye - but we aren't really saying goodbye to those leaving- we are saying Aloha Oe - that is Until we meet again....

Ha`aheo ka ua i nâ pali
Ke nihi a`ela i ka nahele
E hahai (uhai) ana paha i ka liko
Pua `âhihi lehua o uka

Hui:
Aloha `oe, aloha `oe
E ke onaona noho i ka lipo
One fond embrace,
A ho`i a`e au
Until we meet again

`O ka hali`a aloha i hiki mai
Ke hone a`e nei i
Ku`u manawa
`O `oe nô ka`u ipo aloha
A loko e hana nei

Maopopo ku`u `ike i ka nani
Nâ pua rose o Maunawili
I laila hia`ia nâ manu
Miki`ala i ka nani o ka lipo
Proudly swept the rain by the cliffs
As it glided through the trees
Still following ever the bud
The `ahihi lehua of the vale
Chorus:
Farewell to you, farewell to you
The charming one who dwells in the shaded bowers
One fond embrace,
'Ere I depart
Until we meet again

Sweet memories come back to me
Bringing fresh remembrances
Of the past
Dearest one, yes, you are mine own
From you, true love shall never depart

I have seen and watched your loveliness
The sweet rose of Maunawili
And 'tis there the birds of love dwell
And sip the honey from your lips

Our ohana
The ladies...

To celebrate, we spent the day at Pokai Bay (which has become a gathering place for many of our group get togethers). It was a great day to let the kids play at the beach and the adults too.

Mark and Matt kayaking with Gavin and Abby.
These are a few attempts at a family photo- none turned out great, but at least we are all looking ;) (24 weeks pregnant)
I thought it would make a nice shot if Gavin would put his hands on my belly, but in typical 2 year old fashion, he wasn't having it.... This was as close as we got
